## What is Maaco's rework policy if I'm not satisfied with my paint job?
If you pick up your vehicle and something about the finish does not look right to you, say something before you leave. Maaco's policy is to address any concerns at pickup. That on-the-spot conversation is the fastest path to a resolution, and it gives the shop a clear chance to make things right.

If conditions at pickup prevent a proper inspection, such as low light or bad weather, you can return the next business day. You can also call to schedule a re-inspection within 5 business days of pickup. After that window, the repair is considered satisfactory and only the standard written warranties apply, so do not wait if you have doubts.

## Does Maaco guarantee the quality of its paint work?
Yes. Every Maaco paint service comes with a written limited warranty against application failure, loss of adhesion (peeling), and premature fading or chalking. The length of that [warranty](https://www.maaco.com/warranty-policy/) depends on which paint package you chose.

The Basic package carries a 1-year warranty (6 months and 6 months prorated), the Preferred package carries a 3-year warranty (2 years limited and 1 year prorated), and the Premium package carries a 5-year warranty (3 years limited and 2 years prorated), with coverage tied to the chemical makeup of the color and topcoat used. Your Repair Order documents exactly which package you purchased and what is covered. Keep that paperwork somewhere safe.

## How long is the warranty on a Maaco paint job?
Warranty length is tied directly to your paint tier. The entry-level single-stage enamel package is covered for 1 year. The mid-tier single-stage urethane package is covered for 3 years. The top-tier base coat and clear coat package is covered for 5 years. Those are the standard durations for workmanship and materials.

A few things can affect your coverage. Paint warranties are void if the vehicle is in a subsequent accident or if ownership changes. If you declined recommended prep work before painting, such as fixing peeling or cracked old bodywork, that specific condition may fall outside the warranty. The shop will note any declined work on your Repair Order.

## What does the Maaco warranty actually cover?
The warranty covers the workmanship and materials Maaco applies. It is a limited warranty, which means it covers what Maaco did, not the pre-existing condition of the vehicle underneath the new paint.

For paint services specifically, coverage applies to application failure, adhesion loss, and premature fading or chalking. For panel repairs (rather than replacements), there is a 1-year warranty against shrinking or cracking. For spot and panel refinishing, materials are warranted against loss of gloss for as long as you own the vehicle. Minor imperfections such as painted-over nicks, chips, or small amounts of dust in the finish are considered acceptable unless they were listed as specific repair items on your written estimate.

## What is NOT covered by the warranty?
A few exclusions are worth knowing upfront. [Maaco's warranty](https://www.maaco.com/warranty-policy/) covers work performed over the vehicle's existing condition, not that condition itself. If old body filler from a prior repair cracks under the new paint, that is not a Maaco workmanship failure. If cracking or peeling was a pre-existing condition you declined to have addressed before painting, the warranty does not apply to that area.

Coverage also ends when ownership transfers. The warranty is issued by the specific shop that did the work and is tied to you as the original customer. It is not transferable if you sell the vehicle. Subsequent accidents that damage the painted surface also void coverage on the affected panels.

## What if I move away from the Maaco that did my work?
Your warranty is honored by the shop that performed the repair, using the address and phone number on your Repair Order. If you relocate more than 50 miles away, you are not out of options.

Call Maaco's national [customer service](https://www.maaco.com/about/customer-service/) line at 1-877-855-1180 (US and Canada) and they will direct you to a nearby center. Bring your original Repair Order and invoice. The receiving shop will inspect the vehicle to confirm that warrantable conditions exist before any rework is scheduled. If your original work was done in the US and you now live in Canada, or vice versa, additional charges may apply if the vehicle cannot be returned to the original shop, due to cost differences between the two countries.

## How does color matching work, and what if my color does not match?
Color matching is one of the most common questions customers have, especially for spot or panel refinishing. Maaco uses your vehicle's factory paint code to mix a matched color, but a perfect match is not always physically possible, particularly on older vehicles where the existing paint has faded or oxidized over the years.

If an exact color match cannot be guaranteed, the shop will tell you before the work begins and note it on your estimate and Repair Order. In that case, no color-match warranty claim applies to that panel. For complete paint jobs covering the entire vehicle, color consistency is far easier to achieve because there is no adjacent original paint to blend into. If color match is a concern for you, bring it up during your free estimate so expectations are set correctly from the start.

## Are there any quality differences between Maaco locations?
Maaco shops are independently owned and operated franchises, and like any network of this size, quality can vary by location.

If you are unsure about a location, reading recent customer reviews and asking the shop directly about any collision repair certifications they have are reasonable steps before committing.

## What should I do at pickup to protect myself?
Do a thorough walk-around in good lighting before you hand over payment or sign off on the work. Look at the paint from multiple angles. Check the color consistency across all repainted panels. Look at edges, door jambs if those were part of the job, and any areas that required bodywork underneath the paint.

If something does not look right, point it out immediately. The shop manager can address most concerns on the spot or schedule the vehicle for rework before you take it home. Once you drive away without noting a concern, you have up to 5 business days to call and schedule a re-inspection if conditions at pickup prevented a proper look. After that window, the written warranty terms govern what is covered and what is not. A quick, careful inspection at pickup is the single best thing you can do to protect your investment.

# Why Small Dents and Scratches Shouldn’t Be Ignored
It’s easy to dismiss a small dent or scratch as harmless. Many drivers assume that if the car still runs fine, there’s no reason to worry about minor cosmetic damage. Even a light scrape can lead to bigger and more expensive problems down the road. From hidden rust to reduced resale value, ignoring small imperfections can quietly eat away at your vehicle’s condition and your wallet.

This guide explains why early repair is always the smarter choice. It outlines how small damage spreads, how it affects safety and value, and why professional car dent repair and car scratch repair from Maaco offer affordable, long-lasting results that protect your investment.

## Small Damage, Big Consequences
A scratch or dent might look insignificant today, but it often leads to lasting harm if ignored. Automotive paint does more than make a car look good, it’s a protective barrier. Once that barrier breaks, moisture and debris reach the metal beneath. Over time, oxidation starts, creating rust that can spread far beyond the original mark.

Think of a scratch like a small leak in your roof. It might seem manageable at first, but as water seeps in, structural damage grows. The same is true for vehicle paint. What begins as a small blemish can turn into bubbling, peeling, or corrosion that weakens the surrounding panels.

Even if the damage appears to be “only cosmetic,” it can still impact your vehicle’s trade-in value and future repair costs. [Professional attention](https://www.maaco.com/services/auto-painting/) early on prevents these small issues from becoming large expenses later.

## Risk #1: Rust and Corrosion
Your car’s paint system is designed to protect metal surfaces. The base coat provides color, and the clear coat seals and defends against UV rays, moisture, and contaminants. When scratches penetrate these layers, they expose steel or aluminum underneath.

Moisture and oxygen react with exposed metal, leading to rust. Once corrosion begins, it doesn’t stay contained; it spreads beneath the surrounding paint. Dents make this process worse because they trap water, dirt, and road salt, accelerating deterioration.

If left untreated, rust eventually weakens the panel and may require full replacement rather than a simple touch-up. Early car scratch rust prevention protects both appearance and structural integrity.

## Risk #2: Reduced Resale or Trade-In Value
Cosmetic damage affects more than looks—it influences what buyers and dealerships think your car is worth. Research and used-car appraisals show that visible dents and scratches can reduce offers by 5–10%. When a vehicle looks neglected, buyers assume the rest of it has been poorly maintained as well.

If you plan to trade in or sell your vehicle, even small flaws are noticeable during inspection. [Minor dent repair](https://www.maaco.com/services/paintless-dent-repair/) and scratch correction are far cheaper than the price reductions that come with visible damage. A clean, well-maintained finish shows care and increases confidence in your vehicle’s reliability.

## Risk #3: Safety and Structural Weakness
While most small dents are cosmetic, some can hide deeper issues. Impact to a fender, door, or hood may alter how panels align, which can affect how they absorb energy in a collision. Over time, unaddressed dents can also loosen fasteners and seals, letting moisture into areas not designed to handle it.

Professional inspection ensures the damage is only surface level. Technicians can confirm whether hidden supports or safety components were affected. This step is vital for newer vehicles built with thinner, high-strength steel that can deform more easily than older materials.

## Risk #4: Higher Repair Costs if Ignored
What costs a few hundred dollars to fix today can multiply into thousands later. For example, a light scratch that only needs surface refinishing might cost around $150–$300. If left alone until rust spreads, that same repair could require sanding, primer application, and full-panel repainting for $800–$1,200 or more.

Similarly, a shallow dent can be quickly repaired with [paintless dent repair techniques](https://www.maaco.com/services/paintless-dent-repair/). But if it’s left to corrode or warp, it may need filler work and a complete repaint. Acting early prevents small problems from turning into large financial hits.

![Risk #4: Higher Repair Costs if Ignored](//images.ctfassets.net/lzh30dliocpd/2ArwAgzDPx9yyl91VX3xAP/e6c97a7e2d0a74e2ccaf13609ef799d7/Higher_Repair_Costs_if_Ignored.png)

Prompt attention keeps repairs simple and affordable, while preserving the vehicle’s overall finish.

## Risk #5: Poor Appearance and Pride of Ownership
Vehicles represent personal and professional pride. A car with visible damage can diminish confidence in its presentation, especially for small business owners or fleets whose vehicles carry brand logos.

Clean, well-kept exteriors project reliability. Whether you drive for work or simply want your vehicle to look its best, maintaining paint quality is an easy way to extend pride of ownership. Addressing scratches and dents quickly also helps ensure a consistent color and gloss across the entire surface, avoiding patchy or faded areas that can emerge over time.

## How Professional Repair Prevents Long-Term Issues
Professional car dent repair and car scratch repair at Maaco are designed for lasting results. Maaco has a well-earned reputation for high-quality auto painting and collision repair, combining affordability with professional-grade materials. Technicians use precise color matching, controlled drying environments, and protective coatings to restore your vehicle’s appearance and protection.

Some Maaco shops offer paint blending or partial panel refinishing to minimize cost while maintaining a seamless look. If the damage requires a full repaint, a technician will sand, prime, and refinish the surface using durable materials engineered to withstand UV rays, weather, and road debris.

### Maaco’s process typically includes:
- Thorough surface prep and rust removal
- Color-matched base coat application
- Protective clear coat sealing
- Optional polishing or refinishing for an even finish
- These professional steps ensure a long-lasting result that restores both beauty and value.

## Why Professional Repairs Are Worth It
Professional care isn’t just about cosmetics—it’s about protecting your vehicle’s structure and value. Addressing issues early prevents larger repairs later and keeps maintenance costs predictable. Professional service also includes warranties, so you can drive with confidence knowing the repair is covered.

Maaco’s nationwide network offers fast, affordable service options tailored to your budget. By choosing an established provider rather than a do-it-yourself method, you avoid errors that can void warranties or lead to uneven results. With trained technicians and modern tools, Maaco helps keep your car looking new longer.

## Don’t Let Dents Create Consequences
Ignoring minor dents and scratches may seem harmless, but the long-term effects can be costly. Paint damage invites rust, dents weaken protective coatings, and neglected panels reduce your car’s value. By repairing minor issues early, you protect your investment, preserve safety, and maintain a vehicle that looks as good as it drives.

Winter's harsh conditions often leave vehicles with unsightly dents and dings. Addressing these issues promptly not only can restore your car's appearance but also can prevent potential long-term damage. In this guide, we'll explore the causes of winter dents, effective repair methods—including paintless dent repair—and the importance of timely auto body repair after winter.

## Why Does Winter Driving Often Leads to Dents?
Winter presents a unique set of challenges for drivers. Slippery roads due to ice and snow can lead to minor collisions, while hailstorms may cause dents on hoods and roofs. Parking lots become hazardous as icy conditions and crowded spaces contribute to door dings. Additionally, snow and ice chunks kicked up by other vehicles can impact your car's body. Addressing these dents early is crucial to prevent further paint damage and [rust formation](/services/damage-repair/rust/), which can compromise the vehicle's structural integrity over time.

## Types of Dents Caused by Winter Weather
Understanding the nature of dents can aid in determining the appropriate repair method:

- __Small Dings & Door Dents:__ Often resulting from other cars, snow shovels, or falling ice, these minor dents typically affect the surface without extensive damage.
- __Creased Dents:__ These occur when a vehicle slides into curbs, barriers, or other vehicles, leading to sharp lines or creases in the metal.
- __Hail Damage:__ Winter hailstorms can produce multiple small dents across the vehicle's surface, especially on the hood, roof, and trunk.
- __Bumper Damage:__ Skidding into snowbanks or experiencing rear-end collisions on icy roads can cause scrapes and dents on bumpers.

As winter fades, it's an ideal time to assess and repair any dents sustained during the colder months. If you’re unsure how to fix winter’s unsightly dents and dings, Maaco’s professionals are here to help.

## Professional Dent Repair Options (For Moderate to Severe Dents)
Deeper or more complex dents, especially those with paint damage, require professional attention to ensure a seamless repair.

### Paintless Dent Repair (PDR)
Ideal for small to medium dents without paint damage, [paintless dent repair](/services/paintless-dent-repair/) involves technicians using specialized tools to gently massage and reshape the metal from behind the panel. This method maintains the original paint job and is both cost-effective and efficient.

### Traditional Dent Repair & Repainting
Necessary for deep dents or those with cracked paint, this process involves reshaping the damaged area, applying filler, sanding, and repainting to achieve a flawless finish.

### Hail Damage Repair Services
Specialized PDR techniques are often employed to address multiple dents caused by hailstorms, restoring the vehicle's appearance without the need for extensive bodywork.

## Why Fixing Car Dents Before Spring is Important
Timely dent repair helps prevent rust and paint damage, as exposed metal corrodes over time. Fixing dents also restores your car’s appearance and preserves its resale value. Beyond aesthetics, unaddressed dents can cause misaligned panels and other structural issues, which may worsen over time and lead to expensive auto body repairs. Taking care of them early helps to avoid unnecessary costs.

Spring is the perfect time to refresh your car’s look and ensure it’s ready for upcoming road trips and daily commutes. Repairing dents now means a smoother, worry-free ride for the seasons ahead. ## 8 Car Door Dent Prevention Tips
If you want to learn how to avoid door dings, you’ve come to the right place. While door dings and dents aren’t always preventable, taking extra precautions can reduce the likelihood of your car being damaged. Here are eight car door dent prevention tips to help you maintain the flawless look of your vehicle.

### 1. Park Away from Other Vehicles
One of the best ways to prevent door dings is by being mindful of where you park when making daily commutes, a grocery store run, and everything in between.
Find a spot that minimizes the chances of accidental dings—parking at the end of a row away from other vehicles can reduce the risk of your car being in the path of other car doors, shopping carts, and other common culprits.

### 2. Park on the Passenger Side of Other Vehicles
This car door dent prevention tactic relies on the fact that passenger doors are less frequently used than driver-side doors, reducing the risk of someone flinging open their door into yours. It’s a simple yet effective method to decrease the likelihood of a dent.

### 3. Watch Out for Curbs and Obstacles
Static objects can just as easily ding your car. When parking or maneuvering around corners and curbs, ensure you have ample room to open your doors without hitting any surrounding obstructions, which can be just as damaging as another vehicle. Some obstacles you should watch for include curbs, signs, light posts, walls, and bushes.

### 4. Never Take Up Multiple Parking Spaces
Misaligned parking is an invitation for trouble. While some drivers choose to take up two or more spots to prevent door dings, you may be more likely to anger other drivers, risking intentional damage. By parking squarely within your designated spot, you show courtesy to other drivers, significantly lessening the chance of door-to-door contact.

### 5. Avoid Parking Near Neglected Vehicles and Larger Vehicle Classes
Larger vehicles, like SUVs and trucks, have heavier doors that can cause more significant damage. Similarly, cars that appear neglected may indicate an owner less concerned with dings, so give these vehicles a wide berth when searching for an ideal parking space.

### 6. Park Near More Expensive or Smaller Vehicles
Smaller cars have less door surface area to swing into yours, and owners of higher-end cars are typically more cautious with their doors. Positioning your vehicle beside these cars is a good strategy and will help safeguard your car against accidental damage.

### 7. Use Parking Sensors or Cameras
Technology is a valuable ally in learning how to prevent door dings. Sensors and cameras can help you navigate tight spots and park more precisely, informing you of the proximity to potential door-dinging hazards. Additionally, some cameras continue to capture nearby motion after you leave. If someone hits your vehicle, your vehicle may be capable of capturing footage that could help you make an insurance claim.

### 8. Park in Covered Areas When Possible
Enclosed parking is the gold standard for car door dent prevention. It shields your car from hail, snow, and storms and provides a controlled environment that's generally less prone to the chaos of outdoor public parking spaces.
