## What is Maaco's rework policy if I'm not satisfied with my paint job?
If you pick up your vehicle and something about the finish does not look right to you, say something before you leave. Maaco's policy is to address any concerns at pickup. That on-the-spot conversation is the fastest path to a resolution, and it gives the shop a clear chance to make things right.

If conditions at pickup prevent a proper inspection, such as low light or bad weather, you can return the next business day. You can also call to schedule a re-inspection within 5 business days of pickup. After that window, the repair is considered satisfactory and only the standard written warranties apply, so do not wait if you have doubts.

## Does Maaco guarantee the quality of its paint work?
Yes. Every Maaco paint service comes with a written limited warranty against application failure, loss of adhesion (peeling), and premature fading or chalking. The length of that [warranty](https://www.maaco.com/warranty-policy/) depends on which paint package you chose.

The Basic package carries a 1-year warranty (6 months and 6 months prorated), the Preferred package carries a 3-year warranty (2 years limited and 1 year prorated), and the Premium package carries a 5-year warranty (3 years limited and 2 years prorated), with coverage tied to the chemical makeup of the color and topcoat used. Your Repair Order documents exactly which package you purchased and what is covered. Keep that paperwork somewhere safe.

## How long is the warranty on a Maaco paint job?
Warranty length is tied directly to your paint tier. The entry-level single-stage enamel package is covered for 1 year. The mid-tier single-stage urethane package is covered for 3 years. The top-tier base coat and clear coat package is covered for 5 years. Those are the standard durations for workmanship and materials.

A few things can affect your coverage. Paint warranties are void if the vehicle is in a subsequent accident or if ownership changes. If you declined recommended prep work before painting, such as fixing peeling or cracked old bodywork, that specific condition may fall outside the warranty. The shop will note any declined work on your Repair Order.

## What does the Maaco warranty actually cover?
The warranty covers the workmanship and materials Maaco applies. It is a limited warranty, which means it covers what Maaco did, not the pre-existing condition of the vehicle underneath the new paint.

For paint services specifically, coverage applies to application failure, adhesion loss, and premature fading or chalking. For panel repairs (rather than replacements), there is a 1-year warranty against shrinking or cracking. For spot and panel refinishing, materials are warranted against loss of gloss for as long as you own the vehicle. Minor imperfections such as painted-over nicks, chips, or small amounts of dust in the finish are considered acceptable unless they were listed as specific repair items on your written estimate.

## What is NOT covered by the warranty?
A few exclusions are worth knowing upfront. [Maaco's warranty](https://www.maaco.com/warranty-policy/) covers work performed over the vehicle's existing condition, not that condition itself. If old body filler from a prior repair cracks under the new paint, that is not a Maaco workmanship failure. If cracking or peeling was a pre-existing condition you declined to have addressed before painting, the warranty does not apply to that area.

Coverage also ends when ownership transfers. The warranty is issued by the specific shop that did the work and is tied to you as the original customer. It is not transferable if you sell the vehicle. Subsequent accidents that damage the painted surface also void coverage on the affected panels.

## What if I move away from the Maaco that did my work?
Your warranty is honored by the shop that performed the repair, using the address and phone number on your Repair Order. If you relocate more than 50 miles away, you are not out of options.

Call Maaco's national [customer service](https://www.maaco.com/about/customer-service/) line at 1-877-855-1180 (US and Canada) and they will direct you to a nearby center. Bring your original Repair Order and invoice. The receiving shop will inspect the vehicle to confirm that warrantable conditions exist before any rework is scheduled. If your original work was done in the US and you now live in Canada, or vice versa, additional charges may apply if the vehicle cannot be returned to the original shop, due to cost differences between the two countries.

## How does color matching work, and what if my color does not match?
Color matching is one of the most common questions customers have, especially for spot or panel refinishing. Maaco uses your vehicle's factory paint code to mix a matched color, but a perfect match is not always physically possible, particularly on older vehicles where the existing paint has faded or oxidized over the years.

If an exact color match cannot be guaranteed, the shop will tell you before the work begins and note it on your estimate and Repair Order. In that case, no color-match warranty claim applies to that panel. For complete paint jobs covering the entire vehicle, color consistency is far easier to achieve because there is no adjacent original paint to blend into. If color match is a concern for you, bring it up during your free estimate so expectations are set correctly from the start.

## Are there any quality differences between Maaco locations?
Maaco shops are independently owned and operated franchises, and like any network of this size, quality can vary by location.

If you are unsure about a location, reading recent customer reviews and asking the shop directly about any collision repair certifications they have are reasonable steps before committing.

## What should I do at pickup to protect myself?
Do a thorough walk-around in good lighting before you hand over payment or sign off on the work. Look at the paint from multiple angles. Check the color consistency across all repainted panels. Look at edges, door jambs if those were part of the job, and any areas that required bodywork underneath the paint.

If something does not look right, point it out immediately. The shop manager can address most concerns on the spot or schedule the vehicle for rework before you take it home. Once you drive away without noting a concern, you have up to 5 business days to call and schedule a re-inspection if conditions at pickup prevented a proper look. After that window, the written warranty terms govern what is covered and what is not. A quick, careful inspection at pickup is the single best thing you can do to protect your investment.

Understanding Maaco's Rework Guarantee: What Happens If You're Not Satisfied

If you pick up your vehicle and something about the finish does not look right to you, say something before you leave. Maaco's policy is to address any concerns at pickup. That on-the-spot conversation is the fastest path to a resolution, and it gives the shop a clear chance to make things right.

A fender bender can happen in a matter of seconds, and in that moment, it’s completely normal to feel shaken, frustrated, or unsure of what to do next. Even the most careful drivers find themselves caught off guard. While minor collisions rarely involve serious injury, the stress and confusion that follow can make it difficult to think clearly, and that’s often when costly mistakes happen. Taking a calm, informed approach from the can start protect your safety, clarify liability, and make the repair process far less overwhelming.

This guide provides a clear, easy-to-follow roadmap for what to do after a fender bender. From ensuring safety and gathering information if working with your insurance company and choosing the right repair shop, every step matters. Maaco’s experts share practical advice so you can manage the aftermath efficiently and confidently, knowing your vehicle will be repaired to professional standards.

## Step 1: Ensure Safety and Check for Injuries
Your first responsibility after any collision is safety. Take a deep breath and assess whether anyone is hurt. If it is safe to do so, move your vehicle out of the flow of traffic to a secure area such as the shoulder or a nearby parking lot. Turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers.

Check yourself and all passengers for visible injuries or signs of distress. If anyone is injured or unable to move, call 911 immediately. When possible, avoid leaving the scene before emergency personnel arrive.

In most fender benders, the damage is limited to the vehicles, but it is still wise to stay cautious. Do not engage in arguments or accept responsibility before you have spoken to authorities and your insurance provider. Maintaining composure ensures that you can collect accurate information and make informed decisions during the next steps.

## Step 2: Document the Scene
Clear documentation is your best protection in a minor collision. Begin by taking photographs from multiple angles, showing both vehicles, license plates, surrounding traffic signs, and any debris on the road. Capture wide shots to show the entire scene and close-ups for specific areas of damage.

Write down the exact time, date, weather conditions, and location. Exchange the following details with the other driver:
- Full name, phone number, and address
- Driver’s license and license plate numbers
- Insurance company name and policy number
- Vehicle make, model, and color

If there are witnesses, ask for their names and contact information. Their statements can be valuable if the incident later becomes disputed.

Before leaving the scene, check your photos to confirm they show both vehicles’ relative positions and any environmental factors, such as wet pavement or limited visibility. This record will help insurance adjusters and repair shops determine the full scope of your claim and ensure the repairs match the original condition of your vehicle.

## Step 3: Report to Authorities or File a Police Report
Not every fender bender requires a police report, but in many states, you must report the accident if there are injuries or property damage above a set dollar threshold. Calling the police provides an official record that can simplify insurance claims and protect you if disputes arise.

When officers arrive, provide honest and concise information. Request the report number and the officer’s name before leaving the scene. If police are unavailable, you can file an incident report online or at a local station within 24 hours.

Keep a copy of this report for your records. [Collision repair shops like Maaco](https://www.maaco.com/locations/) may request it when coordinating with your insurance company to confirm claim details. A clear paper trail minimizes confusion and keeps your post-accident repair process moving smoothly.

## Step 4: Notify Your Insurance Provider
Once the immediate situation is safe and documented, contact your insurance provider. Many companies require notification within a specific time frame after a collision. Provide the photos, witness information, and the police report number.

Ask your insurer about your deductible, rental car options, and whether you can select your preferred repair facility. Most policies allow you to choose any certified collision repair shop. Insurance agents may also provide a provisional claim number, which repair facilities use to submit estimates and progress updates. Having this number ready helps repair shops begin work faster.

Maaco’s experienced team frequently coordinates directly with major insurers to ensure seamless claim handling. Quick communication between you, your insurer, and the repair center shortens turnaround time and helps you get back on the road without unnecessary stress.

## Step 5: Get Estimates and Choose a Repair Shop
Choosing the right repair shop is one of the most important decisions after a minor collision. Obtain at least two written estimates from certified repair facilities to understand the scope and cost of the work. When reviewing estimates, compare each shop’s credentials, warranty terms, and projected completion time. Ask whether the facility uses OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or equivalent-quality parts. Reliable shops are transparent about materials, labor hours, and paint systems.

Maaco has a well-earned reputation for [collision repair](https://www.maaco.com/services/collision-repair/) that combines affordability with quality. Technicians repair vehicles using advanced surface preparation methods, precise color matching, and professional base coat and clear coat systems that ensure a lasting finish. Shops that focus on efficiency and quality deliver better long-term results than quick, low-cost fixes that may fade or chip prematurely.

## Step 6: Decide on Repair Level and Authorization
Not all fender benders cause the same type of damage. Some only affect bumpers or panels, while others disturb the underlying frame or sensors. Understanding this difference helps you authorize appropriate repairs.

Ask your chosen shop to explain the repair scope, including whether alignment, blending, or [repainting services](https://www.maaco.com/services/auto-painting/) are required. Review the written estimate line by line before signing. A professional shop like Maaco documents every stage of repair and confirms that all paint finishes match manufacturer standards. Technicians perform both cosmetic and structural inspections to guarantee that your vehicle remains safe and visually uniform.

Agreeing to the repair timeline and communication schedule in writing prevents misunderstandings later. Confirm when you will receive progress updates and final delivery. Clear communication ensures the process stays efficient and transparent from start to finish.

## Step 7: Follow Through with Repairs and Inspection
During repairs, stay in touch with your repair facility. Many Maaco shops provide photo or text updates so you can track progress remotely. Request an estimated completion date and confirm when the final inspection will occur. When your car is ready, a technician will perform a detailed walk-around inspection with you. Check for consistent paint texture and color, proper panel alignment, and secure trim pieces. Open and close doors, the trunk, and the hood to verify proper fit.

Maaco technicians perform their own multi-point inspections before releasing a vehicle to the customer, ensuring structural integrity and finish quality. Test-drive your vehicle before signing the final paperwork to confirm that steering and handling feel normal.

## Step 8: Aftercare and Preventive Checks
Proper aftercare extends the life of your vehicle’s finish and prevents hidden problems from developing. Within the first month, wash your vehicle regularly to remove road dust and residue from the repaired area. Avoid harsh chemicals or automatic brushes until the paint has fully cured. Apply wax protection once the curing period ends to preserve the clarity of the new paint and clear coat.

Monitor for subtle signs of underlying issues, such as uneven tire wear, vibration, or steering pull. These may indicate alignment concerns that were not apparent immediately after repair. Regular inspections and responsible driving habits reduce the likelihood of another fender bender. Addressing small scratches or dents promptly helps maintain your vehicle’s resale value and ensures it continues to look and perform its best.

## What to Do Next? It’s Simple
Fender benders may be stressful, but a calm and organized response makes recovery straightforward. Following the correct steps—ensuring safety, documenting the scene, notifying insurance, and selecting a reputable repair partner—reduces long-term costs and restores confidence on the road.

[Maaco’s nationwide collision-repair network](https://www.maaco.com/services/collision-repair/) has a well-earned reputation for helping drivers through every stage of the process, from initial estimate to flawless [paint restoration](https://www.maaco.com/services/auto-painting/). A fender bender can happen in a matter of seconds, and in that moment, it’s completely normal to feel shaken, frustrated, or unsure of what to do next. Even the most careful drivers find themselves caught off guard.

# Why Small Dents and Scratches Shouldn’t Be Ignored
It’s easy to dismiss a small dent or scratch as harmless. Many drivers assume that if the car still runs fine, there’s no reason to worry about minor cosmetic damage. Even a light scrape can lead to bigger and more expensive problems down the road. From hidden rust to reduced resale value, ignoring small imperfections can quietly eat away at your vehicle’s condition and your wallet.

This guide explains why early repair is always the smarter choice. It outlines how small damage spreads, how it affects safety and value, and why professional car dent repair and car scratch repair from Maaco offer affordable, long-lasting results that protect your investment.

## Small Damage, Big Consequences
A scratch or dent might look insignificant today, but it often leads to lasting harm if ignored. Automotive paint does more than make a car look good, it’s a protective barrier. Once that barrier breaks, moisture and debris reach the metal beneath. Over time, oxidation starts, creating rust that can spread far beyond the original mark.

Think of a scratch like a small leak in your roof. It might seem manageable at first, but as water seeps in, structural damage grows. The same is true for vehicle paint. What begins as a small blemish can turn into bubbling, peeling, or corrosion that weakens the surrounding panels.

Even if the damage appears to be “only cosmetic,” it can still impact your vehicle’s trade-in value and future repair costs. [Professional attention](https://www.maaco.com/services/auto-painting/) early on prevents these small issues from becoming large expenses later.

## Risk #1: Rust and Corrosion
Your car’s paint system is designed to protect metal surfaces. The base coat provides color, and the clear coat seals and defends against UV rays, moisture, and contaminants. When scratches penetrate these layers, they expose steel or aluminum underneath.

Moisture and oxygen react with exposed metal, leading to rust. Once corrosion begins, it doesn’t stay contained; it spreads beneath the surrounding paint. Dents make this process worse because they trap water, dirt, and road salt, accelerating deterioration.

If left untreated, rust eventually weakens the panel and may require full replacement rather than a simple touch-up. Early car scratch rust prevention protects both appearance and structural integrity.

## Risk #2: Reduced Resale or Trade-In Value
Cosmetic damage affects more than looks—it influences what buyers and dealerships think your car is worth. Research and used-car appraisals show that visible dents and scratches can reduce offers by 5–10%. When a vehicle looks neglected, buyers assume the rest of it has been poorly maintained as well.

If you plan to trade in or sell your vehicle, even small flaws are noticeable during inspection. [Minor dent repair](https://www.maaco.com/services/paintless-dent-repair/) and scratch correction are far cheaper than the price reductions that come with visible damage. A clean, well-maintained finish shows care and increases confidence in your vehicle’s reliability.

## Risk #3: Safety and Structural Weakness
While most small dents are cosmetic, some can hide deeper issues. Impact to a fender, door, or hood may alter how panels align, which can affect how they absorb energy in a collision. Over time, unaddressed dents can also loosen fasteners and seals, letting moisture into areas not designed to handle it.

Professional inspection ensures the damage is only surface level. Technicians can confirm whether hidden supports or safety components were affected. This step is vital for newer vehicles built with thinner, high-strength steel that can deform more easily than older materials.

## Risk #4: Higher Repair Costs if Ignored
What costs a few hundred dollars to fix today can multiply into thousands later. For example, a light scratch that only needs surface refinishing might cost around $150–$300. If left alone until rust spreads, that same repair could require sanding, primer application, and full-panel repainting for $800–$1,200 or more.

Similarly, a shallow dent can be quickly repaired with [paintless dent repair techniques](https://www.maaco.com/services/paintless-dent-repair/). But if it’s left to corrode or warp, it may need filler work and a complete repaint. Acting early prevents small problems from turning into large financial hits.

![Risk #4: Higher Repair Costs if Ignored](//images.ctfassets.net/lzh30dliocpd/2ArwAgzDPx9yyl91VX3xAP/e6c97a7e2d0a74e2ccaf13609ef799d7/Higher_Repair_Costs_if_Ignored.png)

Prompt attention keeps repairs simple and affordable, while preserving the vehicle’s overall finish.

## Risk #5: Poor Appearance and Pride of Ownership
Vehicles represent personal and professional pride. A car with visible damage can diminish confidence in its presentation, especially for small business owners or fleets whose vehicles carry brand logos.

Clean, well-kept exteriors project reliability. Whether you drive for work or simply want your vehicle to look its best, maintaining paint quality is an easy way to extend pride of ownership. Addressing scratches and dents quickly also helps ensure a consistent color and gloss across the entire surface, avoiding patchy or faded areas that can emerge over time.

## How Professional Repair Prevents Long-Term Issues
Professional car dent repair and car scratch repair at Maaco are designed for lasting results. Maaco has a well-earned reputation for high-quality auto painting and collision repair, combining affordability with professional-grade materials. Technicians use precise color matching, controlled drying environments, and protective coatings to restore your vehicle’s appearance and protection.

Some Maaco shops offer paint blending or partial panel refinishing to minimize cost while maintaining a seamless look. If the damage requires a full repaint, a technician will sand, prime, and refinish the surface using durable materials engineered to withstand UV rays, weather, and road debris.

### Maaco’s process typically includes:
- Thorough surface prep and rust removal
- Color-matched base coat application
- Protective clear coat sealing
- Optional polishing or refinishing for an even finish
- These professional steps ensure a long-lasting result that restores both beauty and value.

## Why Professional Repairs Are Worth It
Professional care isn’t just about cosmetics—it’s about protecting your vehicle’s structure and value. Addressing issues early prevents larger repairs later and keeps maintenance costs predictable. Professional service also includes warranties, so you can drive with confidence knowing the repair is covered.

Maaco’s nationwide network offers fast, affordable service options tailored to your budget. By choosing an established provider rather than a do-it-yourself method, you avoid errors that can void warranties or lead to uneven results. With trained technicians and modern tools, Maaco helps keep your car looking new longer.

## Don’t Let Dents Create Consequences
Ignoring minor dents and scratches may seem harmless, but the long-term effects can be costly. Paint damage invites rust, dents weaken protective coatings, and neglected panels reduce your car’s value. By repairing minor issues early, you protect your investment, preserve safety, and maintain a vehicle that looks as good as it drives.

# What Is Cosmollision? A Maaco Original
When Maaco was founded in 1972, it wasn’t just another auto body shop. Maaco was created for an entirely new category. Founder, Anthony “Tony” A. Martino saw a gap in the industry: drivers were forced to choose between low-quality paint shops or high-priced collision centers and dealerships. What was missing? An affordable, reliable solution for quality auto painting and light auto body repair.

That solution became Maaco, and with it, Tony coined a term that still defines the brand today: __cosmollision.__

## The Meaning of Cosmollision
Cosmollision is a Maaco original term that describes the blend of cosmetic auto paint work and light collision repair. It’s a sweet spot between minor cosmetic refreshes and full-scale collision work. Cosmollision work is designed to restore your vehicle’s appearance without the cost or complexity of traditional collision repair.

Think:
•	Scratches, scrapes, and scuffs

Your vehicle’s bumper isn’t just cosmetic. Your bumper helps absorb impact and protect you and your passengers. Even small dents, scratches, or cracks can compromise safety and lower your car’s value if left unrepaired.

A professional bumper service at Maaco evaluates the damage and recommends whether repair or replacement is the right option for your vehicle, whether it’s the front or rear bumper.

## Why Bumper Care Matters
Safety first! Bumpers are designed to protect your vehicle during collisions. Even minor bumper damage can decrease performance and risk more costly damage later.
A well cared for bumper boosts your vehicle’s appearance. Cosmetic flaws like scratches or faded paint can make a great car look older or less cared for. Fixing these issues can restore your ride’s clean look and even help maintain its resale value.

## Repair vs Replacement: What’s the Difference?
Not all bumper damage requires replacement. Minor issues can often be repaired, but deeper damage may need a full replacement for safety. Here’s how they compare.

### Bumper Repair
- Best for minor dents, cracks, and scratches
- Often includes sanding, filling, and repainting
- Usually more affordable than full replacement

### Bumper Replacement
- Used when the bumper’s structural integrity is compromised
- Required if clips, fasteners, or internal components are damaged
- Professionals may recommend aftermarket parts to save costs

Maaco’s experts will assess your bumper damage and help you decide what’s safest and most effective for your situation.

## What to Expect During Bumper Services
A car bumper repair service follows a step-by-step process to restore your bumper’s appearance and function, from initial inspection to final quality checks.

### 1. Damage Assessment
Our professional technicians will first evaluate the bumper damage to determine whether it can be repaired or needs full replacement.

### 2. Body work & Painting
From buffing minor scratches to full repainting, color matching is key for a seamless finish. High-quality paint and precise blending can make your bumper look new again.

### 3. Safety Check
Technicians ensure your bumper still performs as intended, protecting structural safety and providing visual appeal.

## How Much Does It Cost to Fix a Bumper?
There are several factors that can affect bumper repair costs.
- Extent of damage: small scratches vs deep cracks
- Material of bumper: plastic, fiberglass, etc.
- Type of service: repair, repaint, or full replacement

Minor bodywork and paint touch-ups can be budget-friendly (often a few hundred dollars), while larger repairs or replacements may cost more. For the most accurate estimate, it’s important for the technician to physically see your bumper to assess the qualities described above.
Our experienced technicians can accurately assess bumper damage and help you choose the right solution based on safety and value.

Summer is a season filled with fun and outdoor activities, but it can also bring challenges for car owners. From the explosive joy of fireworks to the greasy aftermath of cookouts, and the relentless summer sun, your car faces many threats. Not to mention cicadas and other insects that can wreak havoc on your [vehicle's paint](https://www.maaco.com/services/auto-painting/). Here are some essential car care tips to keep your car looking pristine all summer long.

## 1. Shield Your Car Fireworks

Fireworks can create a beautiful spectacle, but they can also pose a risk to your car. Sparks and debris from fireworks can cause damage to your vehicle's paint and windshield. To protect your car, we recommend the following:
- __Park with a Purpose:__ Find a covered or indoor parking spot during fireworks displays. If that's not possible, park as far away from the fireworks as you can.
__- Use a Car Cover:__ Investing in a good-quality car cover can provide an extra layer of protection against falling sparks.
__- Wash and Wax:__ Regularly washing and waxing your car can create a protective barrier that helps to minimize damage from any stray sparks. Make sure to wait at least 90 days after any [body work](https://www.maaco.com/services/collision-repair/) or paint work to prevent voiding the [warranty](https://www.maaco.com/warranty-policy/).

## 2. Grease and Cookouts

Summer barbecues are a favorite pastime, but they can leave your car susceptible to grease stains. Here's how to protect your vehicle:
__- Park Strategically:__ Avoid parking too close to the grill or food preparation areas. This reduces the risk of grease and food splatters.
__- Clean Immediately:__ If you notice any grease or food stains on your car, clean them as soon as possible. Use a gentle automotive cleaner and a microfiber cloth to avoid scratching the paint.
__- Regular Detailing:__ Consider scheduling regular detailing sessions for your car during the summer months. Professional detailing can remove stubborn stains and maintain your car’s finish.

## 3. Combat the Summer Sun

The summer sun can be harsh on your car’s paint, causing it to fade and crack. Protect your vehicle from the sun’s damaging rays with these tips:
__- Park in the Shade:__ Whenever possible, park your car in shaded areas. This simple step can significantly reduce sun exposure.
__- Use a Car Cover:__ If shaded parking isn't available, use a car cover to protect your vehicle from direct sunlight.
__- Apply UV Protection:__ Use a UV protectant on both the exterior and interior surfaces of your car. UV protectants help to prevent fading and cracking caused by sun exposure.
__- Regular Waxing:__ Waxing your car not only makes it shine but also provides a protective layer against the sun’s rays.

## 4. Insect Damage: Cicad-Uh-Ohs and Beyond

Insects like cicadas can cause significant damage to your car’s paint and finish. Their acidic remains can erode paint if not cleaned promptly. Here’s how to keep your car insect-free:
__- Wash Regularly:__ Regularly washing your car can help remove insect debris before it has a chance to cause damage. Focus on the front grille, bumper, and windshield, which are the most common impact areas for pesky insects.
__- Use Bug Remover:__ Specially formulated bug removers can effectively clean insect residue without harming your car’s paint.
__- Apply a Protective Coating:__ A high-quality paint sealant or ceramic coating can provide a barrier that makes it easier to clean off insects and protects the paint from acidic residue.
__- Inspect and Clean:__ After long drives, especially through rural or wooded areas, inspect your car for any insect buildup and clean it off as soon as possible.

## Conclusion

Summer is a wonderful time to enjoy your car, but it also requires extra care to protect it from seasonal hazards. By following these tips, you can keep your vehicle looking great and running smoothly throughout the summer months. Regular maintenance and proactive measures will not only preserve your car’s appearance but also enhance its longevity. As Memorial Day approaches on Monday, May 27, Maaco is reflecting on the courageous military families they’ve met, and the strides made in supporting them through charitable initiatives.

## A Partnership with Purpose: Operation Homefront

Back in 2018, the [Maaco Foundation](https://www.maaco.com/charitable-foundation/) joined forces with Operation Homefront, a non-profit organization dedicated to building strong, stable, and secure military families. Through this partnership, Maaco worked in tandem with local owners and Operation Homefront representatives to organize community events aimed at raising awareness for Operation Homefront's vital mission.

One notable event was the co-sponsored grand opening of [Maaco Martinsburg in West Virginia](https://www.maaco.com/locations/wv/martinsburg-12971/). This community-focused event not only showcased the new Maaco shop, but also educated attendees about Operation Homefront's selfless mission.

Recognizing the importance of supporting military members and their families, Maaco has also extended its support to the children of military families. During the 2021 holiday season, the Maaco team donated more than 130 toys for children at the Fort Bragg military base.

## A Wider Impact: NABC's Recycled Rides Program

As a proud partner of the National Auto Body Council (NABC), Maaco has participated in the Recycled Rides initiative for several years. As part of the program, NABC partners with expert repair facilities and donates vehicles to veterans in need. Recent contributions from Texas shops, [Maaco Plano](https://www.maaco.com/locations/tx/plano-12790/) and [Maaco Wylie](https://www.maaco.com/locations/tx/wylie-12850/), a [fleet center](https://www.maaco.com/services/fleet-industrial-services/), have provided a veteran with a vehicle to help her complete her undergraduate degree.

## A Heartfelt Commitment

Daryl Hurst, president of Maaco, reiterates the company's dedication to these causes, stating, "Many of our employees and franchisees within the Maaco family have served and given their lives to the military, so causes like these are very close to our heart."

## Driving Action Now and into the Future

With a proud history of raising over $375,000 for military families through charitable initiatives, Maaco remains committed to remembering the selfless efforts of fallen military members and their surviving families. Everyone wants to be outside when the weather gets warm, even the Uh-Ohs! Whether you’re driving to vacation spots or the beach, or just using your car a lot in the sun and heat, its exterior can get caked in dirt, dust, pollen, and grime before you know it. Don’t panic—just check out these car care maintenance tips so the paint job will continue looking refreshed all season long.

## 6 Warm Weather Car Care Tips

Check out these seasonal car tips to wash and detail your car effectively and maintain the look of its affordable and convenient [paint job](https://www.maaco.com/services/auto-painting/).
## 1. Use a Car Wash Solution

A cleaning formula specifically made for vehicles is best to maintain your vehicle’s protective coating. Unfortunately, many people grab their regular dishwashing liquid, pour it into a bucket, and add water. Detergents strip away wax coatings that protect your car’s finish, leaving it susceptible to scratches, nicks, and stains.

Regular trips through a car wash will keep your vehicle clean quickly and efficiently. Make sure to wait at least 90 days after any [body work](https://www.maaco.com/services/collision-repair/) or paint work to prevent voiding the [warranty](https://www.maaco.com/warranty-policy/).

Washing your car is also a terrific way to remove unwanted contaminants that may be damaging your finish such as tree sap, bird droppings, or annoying bugs and insects. If you plan to clean your car yourself, it’s recommended to hand wash your car twice a month with a mild automotive detergent. Use a soft cloth or sponge to avoid scratching the surface of the paint. This is also an opportunity to rinse the undercarriage of your car to remove dirt, salt, or [other chemicals that promote rust](https://www.maaco.com/blog/what-causes-rust-on-cars/).

## 2. Apply Acid-Free Tire Cleaner

Use a tire cleaner without acid to effectively clean dirty tires and remove caked-on brake dust from wheels. Non-acid products from any retail store or car maintenance shop help bare alloy wheels resist oxidation reactions like rust. These products are beneficial for wheels painted with color or clear coatings.
## 3. Hand Dry After Washing

Don’t let your car air dry after a wash, as leftover minerals and dirt will remain on your car’s surface once the water has evaporated. Instead, dry the surface with micro cloths or a rubber-blade squeegee.
## 4. Wax On, Wax Off

Proper car paint care requires a regular application of a clear coat of wax. Wax is essential and will wear off after a few weeks in the hot sun and warm rains. Use paste wax or the liquid variety to effectively cover minor scratches and stains before they eat away at your paint.
## 5. Don’t Forget the Glass

After you’ve cleaned the rest of your car’s exterior, clean the glass to eliminate excess grime and dirt. Use a cleaning product without ammonia to avoid streaks. An ammonia-based product inside your car may damage vinyl upholstery and your instrument panel. Finish buffing the glass with a microfiber towel.

## 6. Consider a Fresh Paint Job

Another way to protect your vehicle’s exterior is to bring it to Maaco for a fresh paint job. Our technicians apply specialty paint products to help protect your car from the effects of the sun in several ways:

- Protects exterior from UV rays
- Protects base paint with a clear coat
- Prevents oxidation
- Enhances reflectivity
- Reduces paint damage

A Maaco paint job goes beyond just improving the appearance of your car; it serves as a crucial line of defense against the damaging effects of the sun. By using high-quality UV-resistant paints and clear coats, Maaco helps protect your car's paint from fading, oxidation, and other sun-induced damage. With proper care and maintenance, a Maaco paint job can keep your car's exterior looking refreshed and revived for years to come.

## Maintenance

Whenever you wash your car, do a quick inspection for scratches, dings, or chips. Addressing these issues promptly by having them repaired prevents [rust and further damage](https://www.maaco.com/services/damage-repair/rust/). You can also protect your vehicle further by applying wax and sealant to its surface after a wash.

Paint scratches occur when someone or something grazes your car, while chips occur when tires crush gravel or stones and send them flying into the vehicle’s painted surface. Damage, like paint oxidation, occurs over time and often in response to sun exposure. You’ll notice oxidation when a large area of your car’s surface shows off-white, unattractive blotches.

While door dings and dents aren’t always preventable, taking extra precautions can reduce the likelihood of your car being damaged. Here are eight car door dent prevention tips to help you maintain the flawless look of your vehicle.

### 1. Park Away from Other Vehicles
One of the best ways to prevent door dings is by being mindful of where you park when making daily commutes, a grocery store run, and everything in between.
Find a spot that minimizes the chances of accidental dings—parking at the end of a row away from other vehicles can reduce the risk of your car being in the path of other car doors, shopping carts, and other common culprits.

### 2. Park on the Passenger Side of Other Vehicles
This car door dent prevention tactic relies on the fact that passenger doors are less frequently used than driver-side doors, reducing the risk of someone flinging open their door into yours. It’s a simple yet effective method to decrease the likelihood of a dent.

### 3. Watch Out for Curbs and Obstacles
Static objects can just as easily ding your car. When parking or maneuvering around corners and curbs, ensure you have ample room to open your doors without hitting any surrounding obstructions, which can be just as damaging as another vehicle. Some obstacles you should watch for include curbs, signs, light posts, walls, and bushes.

### 4. Never Take Up Multiple Parking Spaces
Misaligned parking is an invitation for trouble. While some drivers choose to take up two or more spots to prevent door dings, you may be more likely to anger other drivers, risking intentional damage. By parking squarely within your designated spot, you show courtesy to other drivers, significantly lessening the chance of door-to-door contact.

### 5. Avoid Parking Near Neglected Vehicles and Larger Vehicle Classes
Larger vehicles, like SUVs and trucks, have heavier doors that can cause more significant damage. Similarly, cars that appear neglected may indicate an owner less concerned with dings, so give these vehicles a wide berth when searching for an ideal parking space.

### 6. Park Near More Expensive or Smaller Vehicles
Smaller cars have less door surface area to swing into yours, and owners of higher-end cars are typically more cautious with their doors. Positioning your vehicle beside these cars is a good strategy and will help safeguard your car against accidental damage.

### 7. Use Parking Sensors or Cameras
Technology is a valuable ally in learning how to prevent door dings. Sensors and cameras can help you navigate tight spots and park more precisely, informing you of the proximity to potential door-dinging hazards. Additionally, some cameras continue to capture nearby motion after you leave. If someone hits your vehicle, your vehicle may be capable of capturing footage that could help you make an insurance claim.

### 8. Park in Covered Areas When Possible
Enclosed parking is the gold standard for car door dent prevention. It shields your car from hail, snow, and storms and provides a controlled environment that's generally less prone to the chaos of outdoor public parking spaces.

## Dents, Dings, and Deals?! Oh My!
With Black Friday, one of retail’s biggest holidays, quickly approaching, it is no surprise that roads and parking lots may feel more congested. An increased number of drivers on the road, racing to snag the best retail discount can also lead to an increased number of accidents, dents, or dings while you’re out and about. A little precaution can go a long way towards safeguarding yourself and your vehicle during your holiday shopping.

## The Numbers
Some retail deals are too good to resist, and we don’t blame you! So, if you decide to venture out for Black Friday shopping, what are the numbers you’re up against?

Claims data from [Progressive Insurance](https://progressive.mediaroom.com/2015-11-23-New-Data-from-Progressive-R-Insurance-Shows-Spike-in-Thanksgiving-Week-Wrecks) revealed the following numbers when compared to data from the two weeks before the holidays and the two weeks following the holiday week:

- 25% increase in vehicle accidents on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving
  - 20% increase in Thanksgiving night vehicle accidents
- 31% of these were specific to parking
  - 34% increase in Black Friday vehicle accidents
- 31% of these accidents were also specific to parking or backing up

## Why the Rush?
Numerous factors contribute to these increased accident rates such as distracted driving, fatigued driving, or even aggressive driving.

- __Distracted driving:__ Whether you’re downloading that exclusive limited time offer coupon or using your cellphone as GPS to navigate to the best deals, all types of cellphone usage while driving can lead to increased accidents on the road. Download any promotional or directional material you may need in advance to ensure you arrive safely and soundly at your destination.
- __Fatigued driving:__ From getting up early to staying up late or traveling far over the holidays, fatigue can be a major problem on the roads. Tired drivers will be less alert, leading to an increased chance of accidental dings or dents while parking and opening and closing car doors.
- __Aggressive driving:__ Black Friday has come to be known for not only its deals but also the occasional customer brawl. It’s no surprise that this aggressive behavior can also be a contributing factor to more accidents on the road. Speeding, tailgating, and darting through crowded parking lots are all ill-advised actions that can have severe consequences.

## Bumper Damage Prevention and Navigating the Uh-Ohs:
In the chaos of Black Friday shopping, bumper damage is another common concern. To avoid it, be extra cautious while parking and consider the following to help you complete your shopping ding, dent, and paint scratch-free:

- __Park away from the entrance:__ Choose a spot farther from the entrance to minimize the risk of bumper damage from crowded areas and stray shopping carts.
- __Double-check your surroundings:__ Use your mirrors and be attentive to your surroundings to prevent collisions with absentminded pedestrians or vehicles cutting through the parking lot. With additional traffic expected on the roads, keep an extra watchful eye on the road ahead for any unexpected obstacles or aggressive drivers.
- __Park head-on:__ Opt for head-on parking to increase visibility and [reduce the chance of accidental scratches and dents from adjacent vehicles](https://www.maaco.com/blog/how-to-prevent-car-door-dings-and-dents-8-tips/).
