Surface Rust Auto Body Maintenance
Protect your vehicle from body surface rust
Surface rust occurs when the paint surface has been broken. The
bare metal oxidizes (rusts) and then "pits" the bare metal. Rust must be repaired
or it will get worse and ruin the new paint surface.
Repairing auto body surface rust
Because the bare metal is pitted, surface rust cannot simply be sanded away. The
Maaco system insures a seamless, cost-effective repair using the following steps:
| We grind the surrounding paint to bare metal. |
We grind or sandblast the pitted metal to remove the rust. |
We acid-etch the bare metal to remove any microscopic traces of rust, thus inhibiting its return. |
We sand and level the bare metal, apply polyester filler if the pitting is severe, and prepare the car for painting. |
Additionally, surface rust can lead to auto body rust-through. Learn about Maaco’s
